University Dancers celebrates 33 years of engaging dance with our annual concert, CONVERGE, that brings the work of innovative and talented choreographers Doug Varone, Charlotte Boye-Christensen, Sean Aaron Carmon, and Christian von Howard to the University of Richmond. Doug Varone’s award-winning choreography has been called “wonderfully inventive” and “exhilarating.” Salt Lake City-based choreographer Charlotte Boye-Christensen returns to Richmond for her second creation following the success of Unsettled, her 2016 premiere. Boye-Christensen’s collaborative work challenges perceptions of what defines dance, while not rejecting tradition. Sean Aaron Carmon, who has performed major solo roles as a member of the Alvin Ailey American Dance Theater, sets a dynamic visual composition against the insistent sound of a Laurie Anderson live monologue. Christian von Howard, founder and artistic director of the Von Howard Project, returns to Richmond to create his third new work for University Dancers.
